Improve your chin profile with Kybella™ in New Haven & Guilford CT
What is Kybella™?
Kybella is the first and only FDA approved non-surgical treatment that contours an improves the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also know as “double chin.”
- Treatment is non-surgical and only takes 15-20 minutes.
- Customized to help achieve your goals with treatment (Dr. Price will educate you on the number of sessions needed in order to achieve these goals).
- Destroys the fat cells when injected into the fat beneath your chin. Once goal is obtained, re-treatment is not expected.
What is submental fullness?
Submental fullness, also referred to as “double chin,” is a common facial aesthetic condition that can impact both women and men. Causes may include:
- Aging: it may develop as you age
- Genetics: it may be part of your DNA
- Weight gain: results from gaining weight
Sometimes, no matter how much you diet or exercise, this condition may not go away, and can make you look heavier and older than you actually are.
How does Kybella™ work?
The active ingredient in Kybella™ is deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. During treatment, Dr. Price will inject this into the fat beneath the chin area, causing the destruction of fat cells. One these cells are destroyed, the cells are unable to store or accumulate fat.
Actual Results With Kybella
How do I know if Kybella™ would be good for me?
In the past, the only way to truly reduce a double chin was with surgery, either a neck lift or lower facelift. Kybella™ is a non-surgical alternative. While Kybella™ is a new product, it is based in a naturally occurring acid in the body whose job is to aid in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected under your chin it simply follows its role and breaks down the fat. So, the question is only if you have enough fat under your chin that it is bothering you, and if you want to get rid of that fat and change your facial profile.
How long will my results last?
Kybella™ destroys fat cells permanently. Once destroyed, there is no mechanism to store and accumulate fat. Although Kybella™ is new to the market, the thinking is that once you have reached the profile you desire, if your weight does not change dramatically, your result should be maintained.
How many treatments are necessary?
Each patient’s situation is unique. Dr. Price and you will discuss what bothers you about your neck/chin fullness and how much you would like to tighten up your profile. In each treatment session, Dr. Price will administer small injections under your chin. Many patients feel they achieve sufficient results in from two to three Kybella™ treatments.
How many injections are necessary during a treatment?
The exact number of injections administered by Dr. Price in a Kybella™ session varies depending on the amount of fat your have under your chin and the profile you seek to attain. This is not meant to sound vague; it’s just that there is variability among different patients.
Are Kybella™ treatments painful?
The needle Dr. Price uses to inject Kybella™ is very thin. Dr. Price uses local anesthetic to make the treatment easy for you.
What are the possible side effects?
Kybella™ can cause some serious side effects. Although rare, these include trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can create an uneven smile and some weakness in the facial muscles. In clinical studies these side effects resolved themselves, but not immediately.
More common side effects are:
- Residual pain
- Areas of hardness in the treatment area
These side effects pass relatively quickly, and with the exception of areas of hardness, are similar to those experienced with any dermal filler or other injectable. Dr. Price can provide more information on the possibility and duration of any side effects.
